Στο πλαίσιο του Μνημονίου Συνεργασίας του Α.Π.Θ. με το Harvard University’s Center for Hellenic Studies των ΗΠΑ, προσφέρονται έξι (6) υποτροφίες σε άριστους προπτυχιακούς και μεταπτυχιακούς φοιτητές, καθώς και υποψήφιους διδάκτορες Ελληνικών και Κυπριακών Πανεπιστημίων για τη συμμετοχή τους 9ο Διεθνές Συμπόσιο Επιστημόνων με θέμα “Αθλητισμός, Εκπαίδευση και ο δρόμος προς την Ολυμπία” στο εν λόγω Πανεπιστήμιο, στο διάστημα από 15 ως 19 Ιουνίου 2020.

Η υποτροφία καλύπτει: τα αεροπορικά εισιτήρια, τη διαμονή (σε δίκλινα ή τρίκλινα δωμάτια) και γεύμα στις εγκαταστάσεις της CHS Ουάσινγκτον.
Η προθεσμία υποβολής αιτήσεων είναι η Πέμπτη, 5 Μαρτίου 2020, τα μεσάνυχτα (ώρα Ανατολικής Ευρώπης) στην ιστοσελίδα https://wp.chs.harvard.edu/chs-forms/application-ssc-symposium-gr/.
Οι επικρατέστεροι υποψήφιοι θα ενημερωθούν μέσω τηλεφώνου για να καθορίσουν ημερομηνία συνέντευξης (μέσω τηλεδιάσκεψης) στην ακαδημαϊκή επιτροπή του Συμποσίου. Οι τελικοί επιλεγέντες θα ενημερωθούν μέσω ηλεκτρονικού ταχυδρομείου στα τέλη Μαρτίου-αρχές Απριλίου.

9th International Scholars’ Symposium

Harvard’s Center for Hellenic Studies in Washington DC, in cooperation with the International Olympic Academy (IOA) and with the support of Harvard’s Center for Hellenic Studies in Greece, is organizing the 9th International Scholars’ Symposium in the “Sports, Society, and Culture” series in Washington DC, July 15–19, 2020. As in previous years, the Symposium will host scholars and bring together students and faculty from Universities around the world.
Topic
As part of the international scholarly exchange on sports, society, and politics, the 2020 meeting of the IOA/CHS Symposium examines the multifaceted relationship between sports and pedagogy. Entitled “Athletics, Education, and the Road to Olympia”, the 9th International Scholars’ Symposium brings to the Center for Hellenic Studies in Washington, DC an academic gathering designed to shed new light on ancient and modern discourses on education and sports within the broader context of the Olympics.
Structure
In addition to lectures, the Symposium places emphasis on the blended learning approach. Students will have access to a list of core readings in advance of the Symposium. Presentations will be followed by workshops during which the students will be asked to discuss the readings and reflect on the themes of the presentations in small groups. The Symposium’s program and abstracts of presentations will be available in due time.
This is a non-fee-based event, and the participants will be awarded certificates of attendance during the closing ceremony of the Symposium.
Faculty
This year’s Symposium speakers will include Gregory Nagy (Harvard University and CHS Harvard), Charles Stocking (University of Western Ontario and CHS Harvard), Stamatia Dova (Hellenic College and CHS Harvard), Maša Culumovic (CHS Harvard), Konstantinos Georgiadis (University of Peloponnese and IOA), Susan Stephens (Stanford University) and Daniel Durbin (University of Southern California).
Information and application for students from American and Canadian Universities
The Symposium is open to up to 24 junior and senior undergraduates, graduate/Masters students and Ph.D. candidates from departments that span the disciplines of Sport Sciences, Humanities and Political Sciences in the USA and Canada.
Accommodation (in double or triple rooms) and lunch at the CHS Washington premises will be offered by the CHS.
Application for US and Canadian students
The application deadline is Thursday, March 5, 2020, midnight (Eastern European Time). Selected participants will be notified via e-mail in late March-early April.
Information and application for students from Greek and Cypriot Universities
Based on collaborations developed with various departments in Greece and Cyprus throughout previous years of the symposium, together with this year’s symposium topic, the Center for Hellenic Studies and the International Olympic Academy will support the participation of up to 6 junior and senior undergraduates, graduate/Masters students and Ph.D. candidates from the following departments in Greece and Cyprus, by covering their airfare, in addition to accommodation (in double or triple rooms) and lunch on the CHS Washington premises offered by the CHS.
Application for Greek and Cypriot students
The application deadline is Thursday, March 5, 2020, midnight (Eastern European Time). Finalists will be notified via phone to arrange an interview (via teleconference) with the Symposium’s academic committee. Selected participants will be notified via e-mail in late March-early April.
