Aristotle University of Thessaloniki has the pleasure to announce that the BSUN 2018 Congress and the 13th Conference of Rectors from the Black Sea Region will take place in its main campus in Thessaloniki, Greece on June 18 and 19, 2018.
The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, founded in 1925, draws its inspiration from the ideas of Greek scientist and philosopher Aristotle, who established the concepts of nature, learning, and practice, as the fundamentals of education. Upon entering the campus, the visitor is greeted by the statue of Aristotle, a constant reminder of his philosophical beliefs, underlining that our future intimately depends on the goals we set. The goals of academic freedom, service to community, and, above all, the relentless pursuit of knowledge motivated the foundation of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and, since then, excellence in scientific research has guided the University’s mission over almost a century.
Currently, a number of domestic initiatives supports scientific and technological innovation and a significantly larger number of cross-national synergies emphasize academic collaboration, along with sustainable and inclusive growth.
In this respect, AUTh decidedly applauds the topic of the Congress: “UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals in the Black Sea Region: From Science to Implementation” and feels privileged to host experts from across the international science spectrum.
The ancient city of Thessaloniki, with a rich history, a diverse multicultural heritage, and stunning archaeological monuments, is today a modern and vibrant metropolis offering numerous choices for cultural visits and entertainment. A delightful destination in itself with its museums, byzantine churches, roman and ottoman sites, restaurants, cafes, and shopping centers set along the bay and in the shadow of Mount Olympus, Thessaloniki will be the ideal environment for our Congress. In the long sunny days of June, visitors can also appreciate a variety of other nearby destinations, like the beaches in Halkidiki or Pieria, the monasteries in Mount Athos and in Meteora, or the ancient cities of Pella, Vergina, and Dion.
As Rector of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and BSUN President, I warmly welcome you all to a stimulating Congress and an exciting visit to our city.
Professor Pericles A. Mitkas
