Prior to its conference – Towards a common development agenda for the Mediterranean in Barcelona the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) held an informal high level meeting, where the EU, Kingdom of Jordan, and the 43 member states emphasized strong political commitment to the mission of UfM and stressed the need for greater unity and collaboration in order to overpass the challenges present in the Mediterranean region. A panel discussion 'Stronger together' took place yesterday in the framework of the Anna Lindh Foundation Slovenia. In addition to Prof. Dr. Abdelhamid El-Zoheiry, President of EMUNI, panelists included representatives of non-governmental organisations in the Euro-Mediterranean region Mr. Mustafa Erdogan, DeM (Turkey), Mr. Ilias Rafail, IASIS Athens Institute (Greece), Mr. Alvaro Willo Ibanez Tudela, Solidaridad sin fronteras (Spain) and Mr. Abraham Mazzopardi, activist (Malta) as well as Ms. Darja Golež from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia and Mr. Gregor Preac, journalist. EMUNI at ENA Seminar for Euro-Mediterranean Diplomats Thursday, 29 October 2015, Barcelona, Spain
The 6th Seminar for Euro-Mediterranean Diplomats, organised by the Ecole Nationale Superieure (ENA) and hosted by the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) entitled 'From Barcelona to Barcelona: 20 years of Euro-Mediterranean Relation' took place in Barcelona this week. Prof. Dr. Abdelhamid El-Zoheiry, President of the Euro-Mediterranean Unievrsity (EMUNI), participated on a panel dedicated to higher education and research cooperation in the Southern Neighbourhood, which took place on Thursday and was moderated by Ms. Emmanuelle Gardan (UfM). Other speakers included Prof. Ilan Chet, Deputy Secretary General of the UfM, and Mr. Ramon Torrent, Head of the Secretariat of the Arab-Euro Conference on Higher Education at the University of Barcelona. Online course 'Regions, EU institutions and decision-making'
The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) is organizing the open online course 'Regions, EU institutions and decision-making' designed by the CoR for local and regional authorities and also for the larger public. During its eight thematic weekly chapters, the first opening on 19 October 2015, politicians (including CoR members, MEPs), experts (from the EC) and academics will have their voice on topics of interest for local and regional authorities, such as EU cohesion policy, smart specialization, migration and access to EU programmes, and more. The course content is delivered in the form of videos, fact-sheets and live debates to be web-streamed from the Committee of the Regions, plus a social forum providing for exchange and feedback.
