Following an official invitation, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki participated in the anniversary events of the Magna Charta Observatory, held in London from November 11 to 13, 2025. The university was represented by the Vice-Rector for International Relations, Outreach, Lifelong Learning and Student Welfare, Professor Iakovos Michailidis, and the Professor of the School of Biology, Alexandros Triantafyllidis.
During the events, the ceremony for the in-person signing of the Magna Charta Universitatum (MCU 2020) declaration took place. It is worth noting that AUTh had originally signed the declaration digitally in 2020, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. This visit served to formally ratify the institution’s dedication to the principles of the decleration in the presence of the international academic community.
The Magna Charta Universitatum stands as a defining document for Higher Education globally. It serves to uphold the fundamental values of the university tradition, specifically academic freedom, institutional autonomy, and the inseparable link between teaching and research.
By participating in the Magna Charta Observatory events, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki reaffirms its dedication to these principles and strengthens its position within the international network of higher education institutions.
