Dear Partners,
I am delighted to let you know that the University of Edinburgh is significantly expanding its Summer School portfolio of course options for 2015. We have recently announced our enhanced offering on our website www.summerschool.ed.ac.uk. I hope you enjoy our new look.
As you may know, since its foundation in 1583, the University of Edinburgh has been global both in its inspirations and its outlook. Today we are very proud that international students from over 140 countries have chosen to study here, representing almost 40% of our student population.
We are delighted that through expanding our Summer School Programme, we will be welcoming even more international students, and would like to invite your University to take part in promoting this to your students. By joining us for one of our Summer School courses, your students will be able to:
Experience a unique city
The University is set in the heart of Scotland’s vibrant and historic capital city. Edinburgh has a unique mix of architectural beauty and history with a lively arts and cultural scene including the world’s largest Arts festival every August. Edinburgh earned a UNESCO World Heritage title; it inspires passion by providing stimulating environment for writers, philosophers, inventors and political thinkers. Our Summer School courses are designed to allow students to experience the city through the academic content and a stimulating social programme with an element of community engagement.
Question the convention
Our researchers, students and alumni have been shaping the world for almost five centuries: Joseph Black- discoverer of carbon dioxide, James Hutton- the Father of Modern Geology, Charles Darwin- naturalist and author of ‘The Origin of Spices’. Our students are taught to question the norms and provoke discussions, and this approach confirms our reputation for excellence and innovation. We are proud to be moving the world forward with breakthrough research like Dolly the sheep and the work of Noble Prize winner Peter Higgs.
Immerse themselves in an interdisciplinary learning
Consistently ranked as one of the top 20 universities in the world, the University of Edinburgh is renowned for its top-class teaching and standards of academic excellence. The University’s numerous research institutes and teaching centres across a wide range of colleges and subject areas acknowledge the importance of interdisciplinary thinking. Many of our summer school programmes are designed to reflect an element of interdisciplinary study, enabling students to develop strong skills in both research and in practice and moreover to apply this knowledge productively to current issues.
Connect with international community
The University of Edinburgh’s location in Scotland’s bustling capital city ensures it is an attractive option for students from around the world. The Summer School invites students from the UK and abroad to live, study and socialise in Scotland’s vibrant capital, ensuring that the Summer School population will be similarly diverse. This environment will foster an organic cultural exchange between students of all nationalities, an experience which will encourage the formation of enduring friendships and connections with other like-minded individuals from across the globe.
I hope you find this new development as exciting as we do. If this is of interest, please do circulate this information to your students. I have also attached the Summer School Prospectus as a summary version of the courses available, for your ease of reference.
Please note that we regularly run online sessions and we would invite you to talk to us live.
If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to let me know.
With best wishes,
Isabell
