The Balkan Universities Association Network, of which AUTh is a member, is organizing a competition titled “Search and Rescue Competition” among university students from the countries of Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Slovenia, Albania, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, and the Autonomous Region of Gagauzia. The aim is to enhance awareness of natural disasters, promote cultural interaction, and encourage a culture of collaboration within the Balkan Cities Cooperation Platform.
The goal is to create teams for dealing with natural disasters, research, and rescue by students, enhancing their effective participation in related activities and increasing their awareness of natural disasters.
The competition is scheduled to take place from May 20 to May 26, 2024, at the Gökçetepe Natural Park in the Keşan region of Edirne, Turkey.
Participation Criteria:
- Active student status
- Suitable health condition allowing participation in the competition
- Signature of the commitment text (attached file “Occupational Safety Instruction and Undertaking” – signed and in a PDF file)
Previous participation in research and rescue activities will be considered (though not mandatory), evidenced by certificates or recommendation letters, such as lifeguard certification, knowledge of the CARPA method, participation in a mountaineering or climbing club, involvement in a search and rescue team, etc.
Transportation and travel expenses from Thessaloniki to Turkey, expenses for travel within Turkey, as well as accommodation and meals for the participants, will be fully covered by the organizers.

If selected, students must obtain a valid passport at least until 20.3.2024.
