The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki achieved two remarkable distinctions in the 7th Writing Contest of the Silk-Road Universities Network (SUN) – WRICOS 2023 – 2024, as two members of its student community won awards in the fields of essay writing and poetry.
Specifically, 2 students from the School of Law and the School of Philology participated in the contest and were awarded the Special Selection Prize for their works in the essay and poetry categories, respectively.
The theme of the WRICOS 2023 – 2024 contest for poetry was “Trees: any subjects related to trees”, while two themes were made for essays: 1. “Trees and People along the Silk Roads”, and 2. “How is contemporary climate change affecting the physical landscapes and environments along the Silk Roads.”
The WRICOS contest is held by the Silk-Road Universities Network (SUN), a significant active network comprised by 81 Institutions across 28 nations in Europe and Asia.
The main purpose of the essay and poem writing contest is to give students the opportunity to explore the linguistic and cultural diversity in languages across the land and maritime Silk Road areas, while the value of lesser-spoken languages is simultaneously protected.
