On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, a two-member delegation from Necmettin Erbakan University (NEU) visited Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh). The purpose of their visit was to discuss potential collaboration opportunities between the two institutions.

During the meeting, Necmettin Erbakan University proposed that their institution should collaborate with AUTh at the level of joint scientific research, organization of conferences, and student and teaching stuff exchanges. Necmettin Erbakan University is distinguished for their School of Medicine, while they provide appropriate facilities which foster experimental research across disciplines.

Attendees included AUTh Rector Professor Charalambos Feidas, Vice Rector of Academic Affairs, Lifelong Learning, International Relations and Outreach Professor Georgios Tzetzis, the Dean of School of Philosophy and Education Professor Konstantinos Tsioumis, the Head of the School of Chemical Engineering Professor Stergios Giantsios, as well as the Heads of the Department of European Educational Programmes and the Department of International Relations, respectively. The Turkish delegation was comprised of Necmettin Erbakan University Rector Prof. Dr. Cem Zurlu, as well as the General Coordinator of the Office of International Affairs Prof. Dr. Firat Yaldiz.

Aristotle University of Thessaloniki has currently signed collaborations with 3 Turkish universities, with the most recent one being the teaching of Turkish language classes in AUTh for the period of one month during the spring semester 2024, in collaboration with Canakkale University. During the last 5 years, rising mobility in student and teaching stuff exchanges among AUTh and Turkish institutes has been noted, within the framework of European exchange programmes.
